The original goal was to pursue a career in data science (DS). However, after four months of searching on LinkedIn, I found no opportunities. The requirements for DS roles are either a PhD or five years of experience, which is unattainable for someone like me with no experience. So, I decided to shift toward software development engineering (SDE).

Switching from data science to development isn’t easy. Moving from Python to Java is a big leap. The complexity of the task increased a lot.

At first, I was learning blindly. I didn’t know what to focus on. Sometimes, even simple questions would take me the whole day to figure out. And when the question changed slightly, I wouldn’t know how to approach it. This was frustrating, and I began to doubt if I was the right fit for the job.

Then, a friend recommended Drill Insight to me. I visited their official website and found that their TCS program seemed perfect for someone like me. I had some basic knowledge, but I needed guidance. I decided to send in my resume to give it a try.

The next day, I got a call from Mr. Alvin. He talked to me about my resume, my career direction, and the learning path. He also mentioned that there would be a free trial class this week and encouraged me to attend before deciding whether to enroll. The course would be demanding, and they would closely monitor my progress. If I didn’t put in enough effort, it would be hard to keep up.

The trial class surprised me. The teacher covered some complex technology stacks, but the way of teaching helped me understand the basics. I realized I could grasp these complex concepts with the right approach. I understood that my previous struggles were due to poor learning methods, not a lack of ability. As long as I found the right path, I could succeed. With this newfound confidence, I decided to enroll.

A week later, our batch started. Following Alvin’s suggestion, I joined the TCS project class. People like me, with a background in data, are more suited for industries like banking and finance. In these fields, project experience matters more than in traditional tech industries. Having relevant projects on my resume would boost my chances in interviews.

After four months, I graduated successfully. The teacher was excellent. He didn’t just teach us how to use specific technologies; he explained why to use them. He also shared real-world examples and workplace experience. On my part, I took my learning seriously because I really wanted to stay in the U.S.

After a month of job hunting, I received an offer from GS. Drill Insight provided a lot of support, including resume advice, interview coaching, and mock interviews. They even connected me directly with the hiring manager. The TCS project and the project I worked on for GS had many similarities. Plus, I did well in my studies and even corrected one of the hiring manager's mistakes during the interview. Thanks to this, I passed the interview smoothly.
