As a 23 new grad who has received an offer from Microsoft, I was thinking about how to prepare for an interview in North America before I entered the university. In particular, the current employment environment in North America is becoming more severe, a large number of students can not find a job, and even SDEs who have several years of experience dare not easily change jobs. Therefore, for each round of job interviews, I specifically consulted predecessors engaged in the tech industry in North America, and after my verification, I summarized the following points:

Mock Interviews

In North American interviews, communication skills are exclusive. From the actual work, the interviewer chooses not the machine, but the partner. In the work, a lot of information needs to be communicated to promote the work more efficiently. Therefore, in the interview preparation in North America, no matter OA or VO, the process will involve a lot of communication. Therefore, in order to cope with the situation that Indians can't understand the accent, bar raiser, etc., in the interview, I especially found white/Indian people to Mock, repeated several rounds, and then improved significantly.

Hardcore Industrial Projects

As a new grad, how to win the first place in the interview in North America only depends on the core project, because even if you brush more questions, you can not reach the level of work experience, only from the core project to highlight their ability, in the interview, you can see the technical stack mastery, logical thinking ability, communication ability, business ability, etc., and all of these are based on the core industrial project. Therefore, in order to prepare for the interview in North America, I have done several boot camp/institutional projects here and there, but the most useful one is the industrial project of Drill Insight, which has a relatively large improvement and gold content. From technical ability to business logic, it covers all JD technology stacks on the market. As well as the distributed system, Cloud platform, Microservice and other highlights, which attracted the interviewer to ask questions in the interview, and won the offer.

North American Job Search Channel

Similarly, in order to cope with the North American interview, not only in the technical ability to improve, but also in the channel of multi-channel expansion. Not only in the spring recruitment, autumn recruitment resumes, but also in LinkedIn, indeed and other recruitment platforms to send resumes, in addition, Drill Insight will provide internal push, hm direct push positions, so there are more opportunities for multi-channel job hunting.

With the addition of Indians and the expansion of overseas students, CS has become the choice of most people due to the North American identity policy and job demand. Because the standard for industry talents has been increasing yearly, standing out in the North American interview has become the focus of more people's attention. Through sharing my own experience of how to prepare for the interview in North America, I hope to give CS professional/transcoding students some reference.
